Neurosurgery

A neurosurgeon specializes in treating injuries, conditions, and diseases of the nervous system, such as the spinal cord and spinal column. At Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery, our board-certified neurosurgeon Dr. Ernest E. Braxton specializes in complex spine injuries, neurotrauma, and minimally invasive spine surgery. Committed to delivering the highest level of neurosurgical care, Dr. Braxton is leading the way in spinal care to offer his patients lasting pain relief they can count on.

When Should I Consult a  Neurosurgeon?

Most neurosurgical patients at Vail-Summit Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery seek care from Dr. Braxton after struggling with severe neck and back pain. Other times they are referred by their primary care provider after experiencing prolonged and worsening:

  • Dizziness

  • Balance issues

  • Continuous numbness, pain, and tingling

  • Drop foot

  • Pain in the back, neck, or groin

  • Weakness, loss of sensation, or paralysis in the limbs

  • Severe muscle spasms

  • Changes in or loss of reflexes

An injury often causes these symptoms to the nervous system or damage to the cervical, thoracic, or lumbar portions of the spine. This could include anything from a pinched nerve in the neck to kyphosis to a degenerative disc disease.

Because the spine's structure is so complex and can impact the entire body, it's essential to seek treatment from a specialty-trained spine surgeon with advanced knowledge in neurosurgical care. A misdiagnosis or improper treatment may result in irreversible damage to the spine with life-changing consequences.

Braxton with Patient.jpf

Dr. Braxton and his team are my heroes. I had an appointment with Dr. Braxton for excruciating left groin pain with numbness and weakness in my left leg. After looking at spinal X-rays and MRIs, it was determined I required an L3/4 fusion. Dr. Braxton performed a minimally invasive spine surgery, involving a small incision and very little post-op trauma. Eleven hours after surgery, I stood up without groin pain and had regained strength in my left leg. In two days, my nerve pain was gone.

Dr. Baxton's whole team took great interest in me. You do not feel rushed in this doctor's presence. His surgical explanations are detailed, and all questions are answered. I recommend Dr. Braxton and his team to anyone with neuro-spinal problems. Thank you to Team Braxton for all your hard work and dedication to your practice.
