Break a Leg? Put on a PINK Cast in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness

Vail-Summit Orthopaedics Launches Campaign to Raise Funds for the Shaw Cancer Center

When Vail-Summit Orthopaedics EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) PJ Bevan had a young male patient recently request a pink cast to honor his mom, a breast cancer survivor; he was touched to say the least. It also sparked an idea. “I thought it would be fun to inspire others to do the same. And then I realized this would be a great time of year to host a fundraising campaign since we put on so many casts over Spring Break due to ski injuries,” says PJ.

With that, P.J. and Vail-Summit Orthopaedics launched a donation idea that will help raise funds for the Shaw Cancer Center located in Edwards. From now until April 15th, VSO is offering all patients in need of a cast the color PINK, in honor of breast cancer awareness. For those who choose the color, VSO will donate $20.00 for each cast to the Shaw Cancer Center.

Vail-Summit Orthopaedics CEO Chip Webb says the campaign is just one example of VSO’s extraordinary commitment to the local communities it serves every day. “We believe that community health encompasses not only the body, but also the mind, and we endeavor to support opportunities that promote wellness and education. We devote funds to local organizations that focus on healthy activities, community wide interest, and educational opportunities.”

Each year, VSO supports dozens of local team sports, health fairs and outdoor youth programs. In 2010, VSO contributed a total of $66,441 in local sponsorship funding and charitable donations.
